Run & Gun ready!

You'll have to bear with me on this one, I'm predominately an Electro-Industrial Musician (sometimes a Metalhead on the side aswell) used to heavy stompage and Distorted screaming vocals haha. I'm not used to listening to Hip Hop :C

I must say, even after a few plays through the track it always sound very entrancing, the steel string-like instrumentation melds in with the bass so well that it gives off this kind of downtempo and daresay relaxing atmosphere which I really like. With the femenine vocal-samples popping in at intervals, it aids it very well.

It sounds like a pretty olden-styled track (or however it is tagged as), the simplistic drum kit which drives the song along with the more tape/saturated-like mastering style seeming fairly evident (and pretty nice).

If there is anything I could really say I don't like about this piece, it's the clicking which goes on and on throughout the track. It seems inordinately loud compared to everything else which is going on to the point where it's annoying. i think it needs to be turned down by a few -DB maybe?

Overall, apart from the clicking I do actually enjoy this track, it's a pretty chilled-out piece and the atmosphere which it gives off impresses me. HOpefully what I have mentioned above makes sense, I'm not used to listening or reviewing this kind of music style!

KleptoidKat responds:

Hey man, thanks so much for your observations!

Believe it or not, its actually a male voice pitched up a bit. Every sound you hear in this track has an origin (or sample) you wouldnt even think about. Basically what im trying to say is, I flipped the shit out of this. Lol. When you said simplistic drum kit that almost shook my heart haha. I put a lot of work into those snares to make it sound unlike any other snare.

As for the "clicking" sound, that is supposed to be the hi hat. After all this track derives from a beat tape meant to be used by rappers. If vocals were layered over this beat, the clicks wouldnt be as showy as the nude beat.

Get some really stand out Distorted Kick, Snare Hats and Crashes going with the rest of the track and this would be perfect to do some vocal work with!

AliceMako responds:

That can be arranged.

Sounds pretty chill to me!

Really, the 'meat' of the track is purely 0:57 upto 1:50 and it does sounds pretty good. No complaints over your drum, snare or hat samples and the lead sounds simplistic but gets the job done (if not abit repetitively throughout the piece). Bass patch sounds quite nice aswell.

What I have immediately noticed and what sadly makes the track more annoying for me is that your Lead with the rest of the track seems abit out-of-sync at the beginning. Don't know if it's how high you have the attack set on the patch or if the pattern score is accidentally out-of-sync with the rest of the sequence but it doesn't sound right.

Only other gripe is how thin the track sounded between 0:00-0:57 and 1:50 onwards (at least in my own messed up opinion haha). I think it could potentially sound better if you boosted the decay and sustain upwards on some of your patches and widened them a tinsy bit more.

But yaaaaaa, the track does it's job and it sounds nice and bright in the process of it. YOu've made some pretty awesome stuff in the past so I'll subscribe to you and keep an eye out for your future releases!

Crispy enough for Walkers to make a Deshiel-flavored packet of crisps.

We should totally collab sometime, I'm happy to lay down some Vocal-work for a track!

AliceMako responds:

I'd love that, your work is crazy good.

I do fully understand this seems like one of your first ever tracks and that you have definitely improved since then when I have listened to your newer pieces in comparison but I'll still comment on my immediate thoughts upon listening to this piece.

The most annoying reoccurring part of the track is the distorted Gate noise which phases in and out of the track continuously in the track. I'm sure if you were to ever revisit this track you could always just heavily compress the distortion down with a good Stereo Buss Compressor unit and quieten it down and it should sound alright.

I do actually like how nicely the deeper bass-line sounds half-way through the track when it is introduced. Not too keen on the constantly reoccurring electro organ-esq sine lead which accompanies it though.

I don't really have any complaints about the Drum samples used, it sounds fine. Just wished there was abit of variety in with it aswell as the rest of the track.

I'd say if you were to ever revisit this track in the future and remake this to the same quality as some of your other tracks like "Sleazy like Saturday Evening" or "Liquified Velociraptor" then I would happily review it again and score it higher.
